Chega’s candidate wants to make Faro a great city

“We really want to make it a great city. […] We want to make it an attractive city, a cosmopolitan city, a glamorous city where people have pleasure and pride in living,” said Pedro Pinto to the Lusa agency on the sidelines of a walk alongside Chega’s president, André Ventura, in the center of Faro, on the well-known pedestrian Rua de Santo António.

The candidate stated his intention to make the city “safe, […] where young people can live and stay close to their families, instead of having to emigrate and leave” the city.

Pedro Pinto expressed his satisfaction that in all the parishes he has visited, there has been “a very large reception” from the population to his candidacy: “People feel that there is a sense of change and they really want a change,” he said.

“It’s 50 years of PS and PSD. People […] have only one option on the next 12th [of October], which is to vote more of the same, which is to vote for PS or PSD, or vote for a difference, a break. That break is Chega,” Pedro Pinto stated.

The candidate expressed confidence in his potential to win Faro City Hall: “The team we have is a very valid team, a working team, people from Faro, people with proven achievements in Farense society,” he assured.

Pedro Pinto stated that he expects to have “a great victory on the next 12th” of October, adding he is “prepared to move with arms and baggage” to the Algarve capital if he wins the elections.

“It’s something I can assure the people of Faro. If I win Faro City Hall, as I will on the next 12th, I will be the president of all the people of Faro and will assume the position of president of Faro City Hall,” and, “even if I remain as a councilor, I will assume my position as councilor,” the candidate guaranteed.

Pedro Pinto, a 48-year-old businessman, serves as an advisor to Chega’s National Directorate, in charge of the general secretariat.

He was elected as a deputy on Chega’s lists in the legislative elections of 2022, 2024, and 2025, always for the Faro electoral circle.

Eight candidates are running in the upcoming municipal elections for the presidency of Faro City Hall, which has been managed by the PSD for 16 years, in a race that includes three parties presenting themselves for the first time in that city (Livre, Volt Portugal, and ADN – Alternativa Democrática Nacional).

Pedro Pinto’s opponents include António Miguel Pina from PS, Adriana Marques Silva from Livre, Cristóvão Norte from the coalition “Faro Capital de Confiança” (PSD/IL/CDS-PP/PAN/MPT), Duarte Baltazar from CDU (PCP/PEV coalition), José Freitas Oliveira from ADN, José Moreira from the Left Bloc, and independent Pedro Oliveira, supported by Volt Portugal.

In 2021, the coalition led by PSD won the municipal elections, securing six of the nine seats available, while PS came in second place, guaranteeing the remaining three seats. CDU, which came in third, and Chega, in fourth, did not elect any councilors.
