Carlos Moedas has incorporated the Liberal Initiative (IL) into the municipal coalition, unlike in 2021 when the party’s support was absent. This strategic move aims to secure a majority, which Moedas claims is necessary to solve ongoing municipal management issues hindered by a minority position.
“I couldn’t resolve these issues in four years because I was in a minority. Therefore, we need votes to secure governance capabilities. More votes are always better,” stated Carlos Moedas during a campaign event between Campo Pequeno and Saldanha in Lisbon, expressing gratitude to the Liberal Initiative and its representative, Mariana Leitão, present at the event.
He emphasized the significance of IL’s involvement in the coalition, describing it as bringing “a fresh and new perspective with highly qualified individuals.” He acknowledged how managing with a minority complicated his mandate.
“People realized I faced difficulties without a majority, which is why I urge Lisbon residents to mobilize,” remarked Moedas, highlighting the importance of the Liberal Initiative leader’s presence.
For the social-democratic candidate, IL’s role is crucial, contributing clear ideas such as reducing the tax burden.
“We aim to continue lowering taxes and reducing fees,” Carlos Moedas illustrated, praising the “drive that the Liberal Initiative brings” to this initiative.
