Carneiro calls for reflection on which parties have “proven records.”

During a visit to the Porto de Abrigo da Nazaré in the district of Leiria, José Luís Carneiro was questioned by journalists about what behavior he expects in Sunday’s municipal elections from the electorate that propelled Chega to become the second political force in parliament during the legislative elections in May.

“People should take this week to reflect, as it is very important for forming their judgment. Who is responsible for the great improvements in our living conditions?” he challenged.

According to the leader of the PS, parties like his have proven themselves in “improving living conditions” for people since the April 25th Revolution, achieving milestones such as the creation of water infrastructures, sanitation, electrification, school transportation, the construction of schools, and sports and cultural facilities.

“Those who have proven themselves are a guarantee of confidence for the future, with a new impetus, renewal, refining, improving, correcting what went wrong and improving, with a culture of reflection on what could have been done differently, with that democratic humility,” he argued.

Carneiro posed a question to “those who today come with this easy discourse,” implicitly referring to Chega.

“Name one measure, one proposal, one policy that has changed people’s living conditions in your political life,” he challenged.
