The Social Security Contact Centre in Castelo Branco has yet to pay its staff September salaries.
A representative from Social Security confirmed the payment delay. It was stated that “on September 30, the contract with the CTT/Reditus consortium for the operation ended,” and “a collaboration with the company Synchro began on October 1 following a public tender.”
“The workers remained in their positions, and the management transition between the two companies was ensured without any interruption of services,” the entity noted.
However, “on the last day of the month, Reditus informed the Institute of Social Security (ISS) that it could not pay the salaries to the Contact Centre workers and expected to make the payments in the following days.”
Upon learning of the situation, the ISS “sent a notification to the CTT/Reditus consortium, reminding them of their responsibilities and legal obligations and demanding that the overdue salaries be paid within five days.” Thus, the deadline is Tuesday, October 7.
“The Institute of Social Security (ISS) is attentive and monitoring the situation to ensure it is resolved urgently by the CTT/Reditus consortium,” assured the entity.
The payment delay was reported by the RIR party – React, Include, Recycle, in a note sent to newsrooms, where it deemed it “unacceptable that employees of a public Social Security service are without salaries, which severely affects them and their families, as their basic living conditions are at stake.”
The party insisted that while the payment responsibility does not lie with the ISS, it “has the responsibility to ensure the situation is resolved quickly.” Moreover, RIR maintains that the Portuguese Postal Service also bears responsibility, “if only moral,” to resolve the situation as swiftly as possible.
