A family has filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office against a clinic in Pinhal Novo, Setúbal, for failing to detect a severe fetal malformation during a morphological ultrasound.
The incident dates back to 2023. Throughout the pregnancy, including during the morphological ultrasound, the parents were assured that their child was healthy.
However, the truth only emerged at birth. The baby was born with an incomplete right leg and only two toes on the foot.
The diagnosis later identified the condition as the most severe form of type II right fibular hemimelia.
According to reports, both the mother’s and baby’s health were compromised, prompting the family to seek private medical care.
They are now demanding compensation for medical negligence.
The Ceraque Pinhal Novo clinic told the television channel that no abnormalities were identified in the report, noting that some malformations can be subtle and undetectable, without dismissing responsibility.
Furthermore, Notícias ao Minuto confirmed that several complaints similar to the one broadcasted have been filed on the Complaint Portal. These accounts describe misdiagnosed ultrasounds, some conducted in haste or with a lack of attention, mostly involving the same doctor.
