An operation conducted by the Public Security Police (PSP) of Leiria led to the arrest of a man who had managed to evade authorities during a drug trafficking operation.
The operation in question took place a month ago, on September 8, with the arrest of four men and three women, aged between 24 and 48.
“On that day, during the PSP intervention in one of the targeted locations, a 53-year-old suspect managed to flee to a wooded area. Notably, there was already a warrant for his arrest outside of flagrante delicto for suspected involvement in drug trafficking,” the statement released on Tuesday reads.
After several efforts to locate the suspect, PSP officers successfully found him near his residence last week on the 3rd and arrested him immediately in compliance with the arrest warrant.
The following day, Saturday, the suspect was presented to a judicial interrogation where he was given the harshest coercive measure, preventive detention.
“Lastly, we believe that, in coordination with judicial authorities, we have made every effort to enhance public tranquility in the region and to respond firmly to any criminal activities,” concludes the statement.
