Carneiro asks voters not to be enchanted by “fallacious” speeches

José Luís Carneiro, appearing at a nighttime rally in Barreiro, cautioned that his voice was no longer as strong as at the beginning of the campaign, used criticism of the current PSD/CDS-PP Government to emphasize the importance of voting in Sunday’s municipal elections.

“I do so particularly in the municipality where I know demagogy and populism know no bounds because it is very easy to promise everything and to everyone. Especially in an election campaign, it is indeed very easy to appear among the people and promise everything to everyone,” he explained.

The PS leader believes there is currently “evidence in the Government of those who promised everything to everyone” and noted that in 100 days they “found solutions to complex problems” but, “after a year and a half,” left the country “much worse in all the areas where they promised easy solutions.”

“And what happened in the country will happen in the municipalities if we allow ourselves to be seduced by these enchanting, fallacious, demagogic, and populist discourses,” he warned.

From Carneiro’s perspective, “municipal elections are not merely the sum of 308 municipalities.”

“Municipal elections are truly the fundamental base for the country to face future challenges to its economic and social development,” he pointed out.
