The commander of Mondim de Basto firefighters, Carlos Magalhães, explained that upon arrival at the scene, rescue teams found the vehicle overturned approximately 40 meters below Municipal Road 561, which connects National Road (EN) 304 to the locality of Pardelhas.
The official mentioned that the victim, a man approximately 50 years old, was not inside the vehicle. He was found further down a trail about 500 meters from the accident site, suggesting that he “attempted to seek help after the accident.”
Carlos Magalhães stated that the man was found in cardiac arrest and despite resuscitation efforts, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Emergency Medical and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER) team from Vila Real.
The alert was given at 10:37, and 10 firefighters and three vehicles were mobilized to the site, accompanied by the Municipal Civil Protection Service, GNR of Mondim de Basto, and the VMER from Vila Real.
The accident’s causes will be investigated by members of the Traffic Accident Crime Investigation Unit (NICAV).
