Suspects of human trafficking in Spain were arrested in the town of Loulé

The Portuguese authorities, in collaboration with the Catalonia police (Mossos d’Esquadra) and the Guardia Civil, arrested two individuals in Boliqueime, Loulé, for human trafficking.

The suspects, a 44-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, were subject to European arrest warrants and a European investigation order issued by Spain, due to their alleged involvement in the crime in the neighboring country.

The arrests were part of a cooperative investigation between the Portuguese Judicial Police, through the Southern Directorate, and Spanish police authorities.

The operation included house searches in Lerida, Navarra, and Guipuzcoa, leading to one arrest for the alleged commission of these crimes.

During the house searches, items relevant to the investigation were seized, along with drugs, cannabis in the planting stage, and a significant quantity of ammunition for prohibited caliber firearms, according to a statement by the Judiciary Police.

The defendants will be presented to the Court of Appeal for consideration of their extradition to Spain.

The direction of the European investigation order is under the responsibility of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Faro.
