Carneiro promises not to use the prime minister role to campaign

José Luís Carneiro, addressing a rally on Wednesday night in Izeda, Bragança, expressed confidence in the victory of former government official and ex-deputy Isabel Ferreira for the district capital’s city council.

“Let me assure you that when I become the Prime Minister of this country, you can be certain I will not confuse my governmental duties with party functions, nor will I use them for electoral campaigning,” he promised.

The PS leader highlighted his tenure as President of Baião City Council, stating he “never inaugurated a project during election times.”

“I would take a break at the start of the electoral campaign and refrain from inaugurations so that people could rationally and transparently evaluate my performance as mayor,” he asserted.

According to the socialist leader, democracy signifies “respect for others, regardless of their ideas and political choices.”

“No one should be advantaged or disadvantaged due to their political or party choices under any circumstances,” he stated.

José Luís Carneiro emphasized that this “democratic culture” is what he envisions for Bragança’s future, “with Isabel as the president of the municipal council.”

“Those who have experience in elections know when victory is near. I have no doubt in declaring today that you will earn the trust of the majority of Bragança’s people,” he emphasized.
