A candidate from the Pombal Independentes movement, Cátia Sousa, who is on the list for the Junta de Freguesia de Pombal, was struck by a vehicle on Friday morning in Almagreira while campaigning and sustained “serious injuries.”
“Unfortunately, around midday, our friend Cátia Sousa was hit by a heavy vehicle in Almagreira while we were campaigning, resulting in severe injuries,” the movement revealed in a Facebook post.
In the post, Pombal Independentes also noted that “assistance was immediate” and that the candidate was transported to the Hospital de Leiria, adding that activities for the rest of the day were “suspended.”
“We are all with Cátia in this difficult moment and believe she will recover,” it reads.
