The deputy commander of the Montalegre Fire Department, Júlio Lopes, reported that the remaining front of the fire was contained by 9:00 p.m.
The fire alert was issued around noon near the village of Gralhas, at the base of the Larouco mountain, and in the afternoon, it had two active fronts burning intensely.
Lopes added that there were no reports of injuries or damage to infrastructure.
The deputy commander further stated that units would remain on-site overnight to prevent rekindling in sensitive areas.
According to the online page of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), 121 personnel and 39 ground units were still operating on the ground at 10:15 p.m.
In the afternoon, around 10 aerial units operated in the Vila Real district, where the village of Padornelos was at risk, a situation resolved by the firefighters with the support of aerial units.
