Opening to enable the State Budget? “I did not make those electoral calculations.”

Em remarks to journalists on the sidelines of the municipal rally in Gondomar—the first of four he will attend in the Porto district tonight to conclude the campaign for Sunday’s elections—José Luís Carneiro was asked whether he believed that opening the door to the approval of the State Budget before the elections would harm or benefit the PS on Sunday.

“I did not make those electoral calculations. Next week I will speak about the State Budget,” he stated succinctly.

Regarding Chega, the PS leader suggested questioning André Ventura on “what he has done so far.”

“Any political proposal? Any political project? Any work he has accomplished in his region? That he has done for his fellow citizens, his neighbors? Ask what he has done for other people,” Carneiro challenged.

He cited his own example as the former mayor of Baião, which “had one of the highest rates of school dropout and achievement,” and noted that upon leaving the position, “it was among the best indicators in the country.”

The PS leader expressed confidence in victory on Sunday and urged the Portuguese to vote for the “common house of democracy,” which he described as the PS.
