A 42-year-old man was arrested in the Águas Livres parish, Amadora, on suspicion of possessing illegal firearms and drug trafficking, according to the Public Security Police (PSP).
The Lisbon Metropolitan Police Command (COMETLIS) reported that, during routine patrols near a Zone of Special Criticality (ZEC), officers heard four gunshots coming from inside the area.
At that moment, they moved to a vantage point and observed “an individual firing three more shots before entering a vehicle.”
The officers called for backup and entered the ZEC, locating the suspect’s vehicle. As they approached, the man started the engine and attempted to flee but was quickly intercepted.
“Given that he was armed and the situation posed a high risk, the police conducted a high-risk approach.” The suspect refused to exit the vehicle, prompting the PSP to remove him. Inside the car, they found a .38 caliber firearm used in the shootings. The weapon was functional, and the suspect lacked any legal license for its possession, “which led to his immediate arrest.”
Upon searching the vehicle, the PSP discovered another Class A firearm, a .22 Magnum caliber, two signal flares, a holographic sight, a hatchet, a scale with traces of suspected narcotics, approximately 270 euros in cash, various firearm ammunition (totaling about 600 of different calibers), binoculars with two monoculars, a shoulder bag, and substances “later identified as 3.96g of cocaine and 3.61g of heroin.”
Additionally, seven shell casings of .380 Auto caliber, related to the initial shots fired by the suspect, were seized on site.
The detainee was taken to the detention cells of COMETLIS and is scheduled for a preliminary judicial hearing this Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Amadora Duty Court.
In the same statement, the Public Security Police states that it “will continue to make efforts to combat this and all types of criminal practices, regardless of where they occur, considering the negative impact they have on the population’s sense of security, reinforcing the tranquility and order of the communities it serves.”
