Four out of five municipal councils, previously won in 2021 by Rui Moreira’s independent movement, have now been claimed by the coalition led by Pedro Duarte, as Moreira concluded his final term as Mayor of Porto. One was secured by the socialist candidate Manuel Pizarro.
The first reported result was from the União de Freguesias (UF) of Aldoar, Foz do Douro, and Nevogilde, where Pedro Duarte’s coalition ‘O Porto Somos Nós’ achieved victory. In this most westerly council of Porto, Cláudia Bravo claimed leadership with an absolute majority, taking over from Tiago Mayan Gonçalves, who won in 2021 with Rui Moreira’s movement.
The coalition of PSD/CDS-PP/IL also succeeded in UF of Lordelo do Ouro and Massarelos, electing Pedro Teichgraber. In the 2021 municipal elections, Sofia Maia from the independent movement ‘Aqui Há Porto,’ supporting Rui Moreira, had claimed her third victory.
In Ramalde, Patrícia Rapazote, who had previously won in 2021 with ‘Aqui Há Porto,’ was re-elected on Sunday, this time representing Pedro Duarte’s coalition.
Additionally, in Bonfim, Pedro Duarte’s coalition took over a council previously led by Rui Moreira’s movement, with João Luís Ferreira replacing João Aguiar.
In Paranhos, social-democrat Luís Miguel Seabra was re-elected, this time in coalition with CDS and IL.
Paulo Ribeiro was also re-elected, maintaining Campanhã, the easternmost district of the city, for the PS with an absolute majority.
The socialist bid, headed by Manuel Pizarro, further secured victory in the União de Freguesias do Centro Histórico do Porto (Cedofeita, Santo Ildefonso, Sé, Miragaia, São Nicolau, and Vitória), electing Nuno Cruz, who had previously won in 2021 with Rui Moreira’s movement.
