PSD in coalition wins six of the 10 most populous municipalities and PS four

In Lisbon, the PSD/CDS/IL coalition won the Municipal Council with 41.69% of the votes and secured eight councilors, while in Sintra, PSD/IL/PAN moved ahead of the PS with 33.86% and four seats (matching the PS/L, which received 31.67%), and in Vila Nova de Gaia, PSD/CDS/IL triumphed with 40.74% and elected five councilors, also taking the local government presidency from the PS.

The PSD/CDS/IL coalition further secured the Porto council with 37.29% of the votes and six councilors. In Cascais, the PSD/CDS coalition retained the presidency with 33.87% and elected five councilors, and in Braga, the PSD/CDS/PPM coalition remained in the lead with 24.50% and three seats (the same as PS/PAN, which received 24.24%).

The PS won in the remaining four of the 10 most populous municipalities, holding onto Loures with 43.83% of the votes and six seats, as well as Almada with 29.10% and four seats, Amadora with 33% and four seats, and Matosinhos with 44.87% and electing six councilors.
