The Social Democratic Party (PSD) emerged as the leading party in the recent municipal elections held on Sunday, securing 136 mayoral positions, either independently or through coalitions, according to provisional results from the Ministry of Internal Administration.
The Socialist Party (PS) followed closely, winning 126 municipalities on its own and an additional two through coalitions with Livre and PAN.
Citizen Groups achieved leadership in 20 municipalities, while the CDU secured 12.
The CDS/PP managed to independently elect mayors in six municipalities.
Chega won in three municipalities.
