The Hamas released 20 hostages held in Gaza today, with seven freed early in the morning and the remaining 13 released a few hours later, all handed over to the International Red Cross.
In a statement published on the Presidency’s official website, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa “welcomes the release of the Israeli hostages in Gaza, among whom are Portuguese nationals,” without specifying the number, “highlighting the importance of this first step toward a just and lasting peace.”
“The ceasefire is also a decisive step in this direction,” states the head of state.
The President adds in the same note that he “hopes the next steps will materialize as foreseen in President Trump’s Peace Plan and that it will finally be possible for the two states and the peoples in the region to finally see the future with hope and in peace.”
