Votes yet to be counted? “We will wait for the final tally,” says Raimundo

The Secretary-General of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) stated on Tuesday, after the Central Committee meeting to analyze the local election results, that the party will await the final tally before deciding on a potential vote recount.

“There are 60 votes missing in Lisbon because of a procedural issue, which will naturally be counted,” said Paulo Raimundo, emphasizing that this is not an assertion from the CDU – it is a fact.

“Thousands of people are currently involved in the final count of the results, and we will wait for the final tally,” he concluded.

The issue at stake involves 60 votes yet to be counted in the São Domingos de Benfica parish, which could alter the results in the Lisbon municipality.

Notably, the CDU obtained 26,769 votes in Lisbon, 11 votes less than Chega, a margin that allows Bruno Mascarenhas to secure two councilors in the municipality compared to João Ferreira, who would receive just one.

A PCP official informed Notícias ao Minuto that during the vote counting process, “there might also be requests for recounts if there are justifiable elements,” noting that “recounts are not conducted upon request; there must be some basis.” The proximity of the results alone is insufficient, they highlighted.
