Null vote for PS gives victory to PSD in the parish of Vila Marim

The decision regarding the winner of the election for the parish in the municipality of Vila Real was left unresolved on Sunday after both candidates accumulated 542 votes.

According to Diogo Nóbrega, who led the PSD list for the Vila Marim parish assembly, the General Assembly’s verification today identified a null vote in the PS vote count, which resulted in his candidacy’s victory.

The PS was registered with 541 votes. Chega came in third place with 64 votes.

Four years ago, the 20 parish councils in the municipality were won by PS candidates or PS-backed candidates.

After this verification today, in these municipal elections for the parish assemblies, the PS lost Guiães, Parada de Cunhos, Constantim, and Vila Marim.

In Sunday’s elections for the Municipal Council, the PS secured four mandates, the PSD two elected members, and Chega one.

Alexandre Favaios was elected mayor after taking office in June following the departure of Rui Santos to the Assembly of the Republic. Rui Santos was elected president of the Municipal Assembly.

Out of the 49,167 registered voters in the municipality, 32,144 voted (65.38%).

In the municipal council elections, the PS won in all the polling sections of the municipality.
