Albuquerque claims victory for PSD/Madeira in the region

“I would like to first congratulate myself on the results, which provided another great victory for the PSD/Madeira in these local elections, securing the majority of the municipalities, victory in six municipalities, and to say that in the municipalities where we did not win, we substantially increased the vote count,” he declared.

Miguel Albuquerque spoke at a hotel in front of the party headquarters at approximately 22:30, before all official results were announced by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration.

The social democrat, who is also the president of the Regional Government, stated that the PSD/CDS-PP coalition won Funchal, the main municipality in Madeira, with an absolute majority, even as several parishes were yet to be tallied.

The PSD/CDS-PP coalition secured victories in the municipalities of Funchal, Ribeira Brava, and Porto Santo, but lost the São Vicente Municipality to Chega, while the PSD alone maintained control of the municipalities of Câmara de Lobos and Calheta, and regained Ponta do Sol, currently led by the PS, he indicated.

The PS maintained its leadership in the municipalities of Porto Moniz and Machico, lost in Ponta do Sol, while the JPP once again won in Santa Cruz and the CDS-PP in the municipality of Santana.

Miguel Albuquerque emphasized that the PSD reclaimed the Câmara da Ponta do Sol, currently presided over by Célia Pessegueiro (PS), and noted that the PSD/CDS-PP coalition “unfortunately” lost São Vicente Municipality to Chega, attributing the defeat to “local disagreements among party members.”

“In any case, we hold the majority of municipalities, we will continue to govern the Association of Municipalities, and the victory is unquestionably for those who hold more municipalities, which is our case, and the main municipalities, which are PSD and allied with the CDS,” he noted.

In the last local elections on September 26, 2021, the PSD/CDS-PP coalition won in three of the 11 municipalities in Madeira: Funchal, São Vicente, and Porto Santo.

The PSD, on its own, claimed victory in Câmara de Lobos and Calheta, while the CDS-PP won independently in Santana.

The PS secured a majority in Porto Moniz, Machico, and Ponta do Sol, whereas the JPP triumphed in Santa Cruz.

In Ribeira Brava, the movement Ribeira Brava Primeiro won with a list supported by the Social Democrats and Centrists.
