The PSD candidate and current mayor, Paulo Xavier, expressed his acceptance of the Bragança voting outcome with “serenity and respect” in a statement.
“I have a clear conscience, knowing I always gave my best with honesty, dedication, and public service in mind. Every achievement, improvement, and completed project aimed solely at the welfare of the people and the development of our municipality. I leave with a sense of duty fulfilled, but also confident that much more is to come. I leave numerous projects ready—some with secured funding, others ready for application,” he added.
The socialist candidate, Isabel Ferreira, has been elected as president of the council. Statements from the candidate have not yet been obtained.
The PSD had led Bragança’s City Council since 1997.
