Incorporated in the festival’s official program, the awards celebrate national and international creations across various genres, emphasizing “aesthetic innovation, narrative strength, diversity, and social impact,” the organizers stated in a release.
The MATE Music Video Awards (MMVA) include screenings of the finalist entries during the festival, aiming to reinforce “MATE’s role as an audiovisual sector platform,” while “connecting creators, the market, and the audience.”
The jury and the public are evaluating works submitted in categories such as Art Direction, Animation, Performance, Narrative, Documentary, Low Budget, and Music Video.
Out of an initial selection of 70 works, 35 have progressed to the final phase. The finalists hail from countries such as Brazil, Germany/Singapore, Ireland, Turkey, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Guinea-Bissau, Italy, the United States of America, and Portugal.
An honorable mention has already been awarded to “João Donato e Donatinho – Intuir,” a tribute clip celebrating the life of Brazilian composer and pianist João Donato.
The MMVA award ceremony is scheduled for October 23 at 7:00 PM, in the former church of the Convent of São Francisco. Subsequently, finalist works will be showcased from October 24 to 26 in rooms within the same venue.
Established in 2016 in southern Brazil, Porto Alegre, the MATE expanded to Portugal in 2023, setting up in Coimbra.
Co-organized by the Coimbra City Council, Convento São Francisco, Leves, and Jazz ao Centro Clube (JACC), the festival promises four days of music, art, technology, and education in Coimbra from October 23 to 26, at Convento São Francisco.
