The National Republican Guard (GNR) announced in a statement that a man, on the run since December 2020, was arrested on Tuesday by the Territorial Post of Vila Viçosa in the Évora district.
A source from the Évora Territorial Command of the GNR explained that the suspect was under a “detention warrant issued by the Judicial Court of Braga” for incidents that “date back to 2012” in that area.
The detention warrant relates to “the execution of an eight-year and six-month prison sentence for committing the crimes of domestic violence and sexual abuse of a minor,” as stated in the guard’s statement.
The man was tried for these crimes and sentenced in the Braga Court, with the decision becoming final in February 2017, according to the source. The detention warrant was issued in 2020.
The GNR “obtained information about the whereabouts of the individual” in the municipality of Vila Viçosa and conducted police operations that led to his location and arrest, the source stated.
During the operation, the man “attempted to identify himself as another person, and several false identification documents were seized from him, constituting the crimes of forgery and counterfeiting of documents,” highlighted the GNR in the statement.
Regarding these crimes, the facts were reported to the Judicial Court of Évora.
For the execution of the effective prison sentence, the man was taken to the Évora Penitentiary, and the facts were forwarded to the Judicial Court of Braga.
