Coins in Lisbon, Duarte in Porto. PSD wins main city halls.

The spokesperson for PAN, Inês de Sousa Real, celebrated today the victory of the coalition with PS and Livre in Coimbra and the coalition with PPD/PSD and Iniciativa Liberal in Sintra.

Speaking from Porto, where she followed the results of these municipal elections, Inês de Sousa Real considered the victory of Ana Abrunhosa, head of the list for the PS, Livre and PAN coalition in Coimbra, and Marco Almeida, head of the PPD/PSD, Iniciativa Liberal and PAN coalition in Sintra, to be significant. She emphasized that these municipalities offer PAN the opportunity to make a difference and influence municipal policies.

Socialist Ana Mendes Godinho wished the best to Marco Almeida (PSD/IL/PAN), who will be the new president of the Sintra Municipality, and assured that the municipality can always count on her, regardless of her position as councilor.

“Naturally, I congratulate Dr. Marco Almeida on his election and wish him the best because what we all want is truly the best for the council of Sintra, and therefore, we will always be here at the service of the people,” stated the PS/Livre coalition candidate for the Sintra City Council.

The former socialist minister, speaking to supporters in Massamá after calling Marco Almeida to congratulate him on his victory despite the pending final results of six of the 15 largest parishes, assured that Sintra can always count on her and with the pride in the extraordinary path taken together.

According to provisional results, the list led by Piteira Lopes obtained 33.87% of the votes and will have five elected members, two fewer than secured four years ago.

The second-most-voted party was again PS, with 16.18% of the votes, but the socialists reduced from three to two elected.

Independent João Maria Jonet garnered 14.71% of the votes and secured two mandates, as did Chega, obtaining 14.5% of the votes and increasing its representation from one to two councilors.

CDU experienced its worst-ever result in these municipal elections, securing only 12 municipalities and losing the two district capitals it held, but claimed to have dispelled the myth of an irreversible decline.

With 99.05% of the votes counted and no chance of contesting the remaining municipalities still being tallied, CDU exits these municipal elections with only 12 municipalities, affirming the municipal decline observed since 2013.

Following a campaign emphasizing “those who know CDU’s work trust it,” the night’s results contradicted this narrative: of 19 municipalities conquered in 2021, the coalition retained only eight (Barrancos, Cuba, Arraiolos, Silves, Avis, Palmela, Seixal, and Sesimbra).

“I trust the Lisboans, and the Lisboans trusted me”, stated the reelected Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, before taking the stage to begin his victory speech.

“The Lisboans spoke, voted, decided, decided to continue with us for another four years,” he remarked, thanking all the residents: “To each person I meet on the street. Thank you, Lisbon. Thank you, Lisboans.”

The reelected mayor affirmed, “I have always said that I trust the wisdom of the Lisboans” and acknowledged his connections with those people, including the socialist Alexandra Leitão, whom he already spoke with: “I spoke with Alexandra Leitão and wished her the best.”

Addressing the parties, particularly PSD, CDS, and IL, he stated: “To all those who joined us.”

Noting that the “Lisboans and results were clear,” Moedas detailed, “There were 30,000 more votes than last time. This is the result of these elections. It’s absolutely extraordinary. We strengthened.”

“30,000 more votes mean you want us to have more ‘Moedas’,” he joked, referring to his team, explaining that “now indeed” they will be able to “do everything” that wasn’t feasible in the first term. 

The reelected mayor discussed the operation of democracy, emphasizing everyone’s responsibility: “It requires putting the city’s interest above everything, above all,” directing his comments toward the opposition while pointing out that “this didn’t happen in the first term.”

“From my side, you can be assured: Lisbon’s interest will always be above any personal or partisan interest”, he assured.

Independent candidate for the Setúbal Municipal Council, Maria das Dores Meira, supported by PSD and CDS-PP, claimed a “decisive victory” after “much struggle” and “against everything and everyone” in the municipal elections.

Upon arrival at the campaign headquarters in Setúbal, shortly before 1:00 am on Monday, and with the official vote count still in progress, Maria das Dores Meira was confident of achieving victory by “a 1,200-vote margin over PS.”

João Ferreira reacted tonight to the electoral results he obtained in Lisbon, beginning by extending “a salute to all those who joined CDU in these elections.”

“The step we take with this candidacy – and the result we anticipate obtaining – is an important step because this is a necessary project for the city. The result of the PSD/CDS/IL coalition is a negative outcome, marking a negative development in the city’s situation, even if, with the numbers we have, this coalition did not achieve goals it publicly stated,” he emphasized.

He added, “We will be a determined opposition, and these results confirm us as necessary.”

“Yes, it wasn’t a Pyrrhic victory. It was an absolute victory. It was not a small one. It was a resounding victory,” stated Ricardo Leão.

The socialist mayor was re-elected on Sunday as President of the Loures Municipal Council, in the Lisbon district, with an absolute majority.

Vítor Ferreira, the current president and head of the PS list for the Amadora Municipal Council, assumed victory in Sunday’s municipal elections but lamented not achieving an absolute majority.

“It is true that we did not achieve an absolute majority, and this was not the result we wished for. Even so, what we achieved is significant. We proved a serious project can resist easy discourse, that responsibility can prevail over populism, and that truth in work can overcome empty promises,” he stressed after obtaining 33% of the votes.

Vítor Ferreira recalled that the “context was not favorable,” aware that “there was discontent” and “some attempted to transform it into slogans and clichés.”

The mayor had assumed the presidency of the Amadora Municipal Council in the Lisbon district on July 15, 2024, replacing the socialist Carla Tavares, elected to the European Parliament.

Montenegro stated that PSD would “conduct an internal analysis” regarding ANMP and who would lead it. Montenegro was also questioned about Chega and possible dialogues.

“Chega has representation in the national Parliament, in regional councils, in several municipalities. It must assume its responsibilities, and those on the other side must do the same. It’s not an exclusive issue of PSD. It seems only PSD must respond to that question”, stated the leader of the Social Democrats.

“Democracy must coexist with that. There’s no point in stigmatizing PSD in the same way one might any other parties,”, continued.

Montenegro emphasized that everyone presents themselves as winners, but the party, like PSD mayors, are “truly winners.” “This is a night where, overall, we are effectively, objectively, the big winners. I don’t know how else to express our electoral victory that we achieved”, he pointed out.

“We do not yet have the finalized results, but we know we elected candidates to the Porto Municipal Assembly, to some parishes, but not to the executive. Above all, we respect the vote of the people of Porto. We will honor all the commitments they entrust us with,” he promised.

Addressing a campaign headquarters filled with his supporters, he admitted, “The results were not what I hoped for,” yet he reminded that his team’s priority “will always be Porto.”

The new President of the Viseu Municipal Council, João Azevedo (PS), having taken the municipality from PSD, described it as a “historic night” for the county, although all official results have not yet been finalized.

“It is a historic night for Viseu. I want to publicly acknowledge my opponent Fernando Ruas (PSD), but democracy insists on respecting those who champion democracy. I extend my gratitude to my family; I have had a long political life, but this is a special victory. I also want to dedicate this significant victory to the person who always supported me: Jorge Coelho (now deceased). I must also mention José Junqueiro, who passed away some time ago.”

The Viseu Municipal Council was governed by PSD since 1989 and never had a president elected by PS.

“Portuguese citizens calmly exercised once more, with a good participation rate, their right to choose local representatives,” stated the PSD President.

“With democratic humility and gratitude, I now express a profound recognition given at the polls,” he affirmed, illustrating that PSD famously remained the “party receiving the most votes, mandates, and elected the most parish board and municipal council presidents, claiming historic victory in the five largest municipalities in the country, enabling leadership in ANMP“, as well as leadership in autonomous regions, including in the Government.

Reflecting back to when elected PSD President in May 2022, Montenegro declared he announced then the objective and mission of making PSD once more representative at the municipal and parish levels. “Many found this goal unreachable and challenging,” he remarked, recalling the notable discrepancy between PS and PSD.

“Over these past three years, we prepared the path leading us here. We are again the largest Portuguese party in local power, regional power, and also the largest in the Assembly of the Republic”, he declared, reflecting on his role as PSD President.

“We are here to utilize this trust to enhance people’s well-being,” he guaranteed.

Montenegro stated that PSD’s work aimed to ensure country attention “toward major needs and desires,” particularly in healthcare, housing, and education areas.

Now speaking is Iniciativa Liberal’s president, Mariana Leitão, initially emphasizing that the numbers are not yet confirmed. “I can assure that Castelo Branco and Braga will have IL councilors elected on IL lists, which is undoubtedly an extraordinary result. It demonstrates that IL can achieve a remarkable territorial presence for a party with such a short existence.”

When asked about not managing to elect a mayor in Braga, she replied: “No, it’s not a defeat.”

Pedro Duarte reacted to tonight’s results granting him the conquest of Porto Municipal Council, highlighting that “the other 11 candidates did not finish first but are also winners tonight.” “Democracy won, and democracy is victorious when those who win and don’t win the elections compete,” he stated in his victory speech.

The new mayor of the country’s second-largest city extended a “special greeting” to Manuel Pizarro: “He is someone I hold in great personal esteem, political admiration, and whose dedication to the city of Porto is not questioned by this result. He is a great Porto native.”

An independent movement led by PSD dissident Carlos Silva won today’s Esposende Municipal Council, a PSD stronghold for about four decades, located in the Braga district.

Called ‘Mudança’, the movement presented Alberto Figueiredo, another former PSD member who served as Esposende’s mayor for ten years, as the head of its municipal assembly list.

Hence, Dr. Carlos Silva becomes Esposende’s new mayor and will govern with an absolute majority, securing four seats in the executive opposed to PSD’s three.

Socialist Inês de Medeiros announced it is “almost certain” she has secured another term as mayor of Almada Municipal Council, in the Setúbal district, for the third and final mandate.

Speaking at the campaign headquarters, Inês de Medeiros expressed great satisfaction that “Almada continues to be a great left-wing stronghold,” highlighting the victory at Laranjeiro/Feijó, currently presided over by communist Luis Palma, CDU’s candidate for the council this election.

“We won four boards. We lost Costa de Caparica but had a substantial victory for the first time at the Laranjeiro/Feijó union,” said Inês de Medeiros.

Alexandra Leitão addressed journalists, commencing her speech: “I am here to acknowledge the defeat.”

Describing the journey as “beautiful” and emphasizing that collective endeavors for good “are always worthwhile,” the socialist leader of the Left coalition also highlighted having congratulated Carlos Moedas, for his win.

“I take full responsibility for a result that wasn’t what we wanted,” she asserted, pledging a “firm” opposition. “In democracy, the winner has legitimacy to govern, and the loser has legitimacy and duty to form an opposition. We will do just that,” she reinforced.

Revisiting convergence and coalitions, Alexandra Leitão directed a remark at CDU, stating “the broader the convergence, the better,” yet reaffirming the defeat lies at her responsibility. “The courage of convergence will always remain etched in our consciences”, she declared.

Manuel Pizarro acknowledged his defeat in these municipal elections, starting his speech by thanking “all those who joined the remarkable campaign” in Porto.

“The result is evidently not what we desired […] We didn’t win in the end – in democracy, you lose by one vote, win by one vote. We lost the elections, there’s no doubt about it, I already called Dr. Pedro Duarte to congratulate him as the new mayor of Porto,” highlighted the PS candidate for the nation’s second-largest city.

With the tally of 12 parishes concluded, results show a PS victory with 29.83% of the votes, followed by the PSD/CDS-PP/PPM coalition (29.26%).

CDU (PCP-PEV), fielded by communist MEP João Oliveira, garnered 15.82% of votes.

Carlos Zorrinho was elected as Évora’s municipal president, the district capital, succeeding communist Carlos Pinto de Sá, who completed three consecutive mandates since 2013, though his last term was achieved with a minority.

Chega’s leader, André Ventura, responds to municipal election results: “Chega received significantly more votes than CDS. We have elected hundreds of councilors nationwide; it is a great victory. However, we wanted to win more municipalities,” he noted in an initial comment.

“The country is now also mapped with Chega’s colors,” he declared, referencing the election of the party’s first mayors in its history.

Ventura also noted that Chega “more than quadrupled” 2021’s results—the party’s first municipal elections.

The Chega leader especially mentioned Albufeira, but also Entroncamento, where he planned to visit next. “As you know, politics is always an exercise of accountability and action,” he stated, acknowledging his six years leading the party. Emphasizing a “good night,” Ventura admitted it wasn’t the victory or scope of success they wanted.

“We have the courage to tell the Portuguese truth in every moment and our objectives,” he underlined.

“Chega hasn’t met all its objectives. I commit to working so our recent national victories translate into future local elections, securing more municipal councils, more deputies in the national assembly, and parish councils, so the country undergoes necessary transformation. Parties aiming for power need a municipal base. We took that first step today, but we are still far from our set goals. This party no longer competes for second or third, we aim for first. Today, we didn’t win, but we will strive to win.”.

José Luís Carneiro addressed the results tonight, extending congratulations to all elected individuals now set to serve in local democratic power, appreciating the availability of those candidates representing the Socialist Party in these elections.

“PS is back. PS has returned as the great political alternative to the Government,” emphasized the socialist secretary-general, adding further: “To those claiming the Socialist Party was experiencing a definitive loss of representation in Portuguese society: PS demonstrated vitality, has returned, and the Portuguese trusted the Socialist Party once again.”

“PS is here. It is present nationwide—from inner territories to coastal, north to south, in autonomous regions,” José Luís Carneiro reiterated.

Suzana Garcia admitted defeat in Amadora: “If there were any failings, I fully assume them, solely, and no one else on this team,” she emphasized in her speech.

João Azevedo, who secured Viseu for PS, reacted to the victory, calling the campaign “normal” and revealing he has already spoken to Fernando Ruas, who “closed the chapter” in the municipality. “There’s a diplomatic relationship between experienced individuals,” he noted when questioned about who contacted whom first.

“Viseu will change significantly. In speed, in response, in attracting private investment. We will engage in something critical: listening to people and institutions. All without exception. Such a municipality cannot create walls,” he pointed out.

Even with the result uncertain at 11:20 pm and the majority not confirmed, the economist addressed her supporters to affirm victory and guarantee that Coimbra “will have a change in life, moving toward greater ambition and boldness in political decisions.”

The new municipal president pointed to housing as a major commitment of the coalition and promised to tackle Coimbra’s “severe” disparities, listing daycare creation, healthcare access in parishes, and service decentralization as priorities.

Isaltino Morais has responded to his victory for Oeiras’s Municipal Council. “I feel very happy, and most importantly, Oeiras’ residents are extraordinary because they recognize hard work, merit, care for them,” he emphasized.

The re-elected mayor noted achieving “more votes, more councilors,” and securing an “absolute majority in all parishes – simply extraordinary,” making sure to underline this in his initial reaction.

Rui Tavares is speaking to journalists, highlighting the victory in Felgueiras, in a Livre/PS coalition, with results this year being “more expressive.” “The far-right there cannot even elect a single councilor,” he stated, praising the excellent work undertaken by the council.

Discussing Coimbra, Rui Tavares notes this being the second council where the party can claim “victory,” referring to its coalition with PS and PAN, led by the socialist Ana Abrunhosa.

“Firstly, I want to congratulate myself on the results, yielding another significant victory for PSD/Madeira in the local elections, ensuring the majority of councils, six of them,” stated Miguel Albuquerque.

He spoke from a hotel opposite the party headquarters around 10:30 pm, even before all official results were released by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Internal Administration.

PS clinched today’s municipal elections in Faro, a municipality currently chaired by PSD, based on results from all five parishes, as relayed by the Ministry of Internal Administration.

Following PS, achieving 39.48% with four mandates (lacking an absolute majority), the second force was the PSD/IL/CDS-PP/PAN/MPT coalition, obtaining 31.64% with three mandates, with Chega third at 17.26% clinching two mandates.

António Miguel Ventura Pina was elected the President of the Municipal Council of Faro.

CDU won the Sines City Council from PS today, which fell to third place after results were tallied from both parishes, reported by the Ministry of Internal Administration.

Following the PCP-PEV coalition, securing 40.72%, the second leading party was the independent movement MAIS, earning 23.37%, with PS, which held the council presidency for 12 years, in third with 16.61% of votes.

Álvaro dos Santos Bejinha was elected President of the Municipal Council of Sines by CDU, succeeding socialist Nuno Mascarenhas, ineligible for re-election due to term limits.

The elected President of the Municipal Council of Vila Nova de Poiares, who claimed the municipality from PS through the Poiares a Sério (PSR) movement, celebrated the victory with a pilgrimage to Fátima, where he aims to arrive before noon on Monday.

“I’m on my way to Fátima”, Nuno Neves told the Lusa agency.

Chega emerged victorious in the local elections today in Albufeira, previously held by a PSD/CDS majority, having results culminated across four parishes in the municipality, as announced by the Ministry of Internal Administration.

Following Chega, achieving 40.51%, the second-most-voted party was PSD/CDS with 32.30%, and a third was the PS/L/BE/PAN coalition, with 18.56% of votes.

Deputy Rui Cristina was elected President of the Municipal Council of Albufeira under Chega.

PS won today’s local elections in Marinha Grande, with results tallied across three parishes, stated by the Ministry of Internal Administration.

Following PS, securing 34.73% and earning three mandates, the second-most-voted movement was +MPM, achieving 23.99% with two mandates. The third was Chega, with 18.69% of votes, winning one mandate, and fourth was CDU (PCP-PEV) obtaining 17.54% with one mandate.

Paulo Vicente won the municipality, previously led by Aurélio Ferreira of +MPM.

The coalition Juntos por Guimarães (PSD/CDS-PP) won today’s local elections, ousting PS who governed the last 36 years, with coalition head Ricardo Araújo labeling it as a “historic” victory.

“This is a historic victory. Guimarães’ residents wanted change, clearly signaling, with this being an expressive triumph. Although precise final results are pending, it’s evident that coalition Juntos por Guimarães achieved a monumental win after 36 years of PS rule,” stated Ricardo Araújo to Lusa.

By 11:00 pm, per the candidate of PSD/CDS-PP, results remained to be concluded in two parishes, albeit lacking significant influence on coalition victory certainty, with potential absolute majority yet to be determined.

PSD won today’s local elections in Batalha, Leiria district, capturing the municipal presidency from the independent movement “Batalha é de Todos,” ranked second, stated by the Ministry of Internal Administration.

Having results tallied across the four parishes, PSD, placed second in 2021, secured 44.1% of votes, attaining four of seven mandates. The independent citizen group Batalha é de Todos received 20.7% of votes, earning two mandates, while PPD/CDS attained 16% of votes electing one councilor.

André Emanuel Bento Sousa will be the new president of the Batalha Municipal Council, leading with an absolute majority.

“My friends, today was a very happy night for CDS,” stated Nuno Melo, adding, “today marked the end of a significant cycle of resistance, inaugurating the party’s growth era.”

Addressing those who thought “CDS came to an end,” Nuno Melo argued: “Count the votes, count the councils, count the municipal councils. They’re mistaken; CDS is here permanently. CDS retained all self-led councils.”

Mariana Mortágua, the Bloc of the Left coordinator, became the second party leader to react this election night: “This party has many highly qualified individuals to represent it,” she stressed, mentioning the examples of Marisa Matias and Andreia Galvão.

The BE leader also pointed out her “participation in a humanitarian mission [during part of the election campaign] is widely recognized and understood for such reasons.”

Regarding tonight’s results, Mortágua voiced that “we are still in a previous period of Rightward shift which these local elections reflected.”

Marco Almeida (PSD) claims victory in Sintra, defeating Ana Mendes Godinho (PS) and Rita Matias (Chega). The social democrat thanked Luís Montenegro for investing in Sintra.

“Montenegro was often misunderstood, but it was worth it,” he stated.

The PSD/CDS-PP coalition seized the Lousã Municipal Council from PS in today’s elections, with results tallied in all five parishes, as confirmed by the Internal Administration Ministry’s data.

After PSD/CDS-PP, with 45.14% of the votes, PS stood as the second most voted with 33%, and the third most voted is the independent Movimento Independente pela Lousã (MIL), capturing 8.70% of votes.

Victor Carvalho was elected President of the Lousã Municipal Council, ensuring an absolute majority and succeeding the socialist Luís Antunes.

PS clinched the Alcácer do Sal Municipal Council, Setúbal district, from CDU (PCP-PEV), in Sunday’s local elections, as provisionally reported by the Ministry of Internal Administration.

Per MAI’s provisional results, PS won with 50.64% of the votes, closely trailed by CDU.

The socialists achieved three mandates, while the communist-led coalition secured two mandates.

The Movimento Figueiró Independente (MFI) emerged victorious in the local elections held today, seizing Figueiró dos Vinhos, previously governed by PS, with results compiled from the four parishes, as relayed by the Ministry of Internal Administration.

Following MFI, headed by Carlos Lopes with 39.43%, the second-most-voted party was PPD/PSD, achieving 32.05%, while PS garnered 20.58% of votes for third place.

Carlos Alberto David dos Santos Lopes was elected President of the Figueiró dos Vinhos Municipal Council.

The PSD/CDS-PP coalition triumphed over Movimento Independente Anadia Primeiro, securing the Anadia Municipal Council in today’s elections, with complete results compiled from all ten parishes in the district, as confirmed by the Ministry of Internal Administration.

Following PSD/CDS-PP, earning 58.86% of votes, PS ranked second with 21.48%, and Chega came third, capturing 12.03% of votes.

Jorge Eduardo Ferreira Sampaio was elected President of the Anadia Municipal Council, achieving a majority, succeeding Teresa Belém Cardoso of Movimento Independente Anadia Primeiro, restricted by term limits from re-election.

PS secured victory in Grândola’s Municipal Council in today’s elections, previously led by CDU, with tallied results from all four parishes, as relayed by the Ministry of Internal Administration.

Following PS, capturing 38.33%, CDU (PCP-PEV) followed closely with 33.72%, and PPD/PSD.CDS-PP garnered 16.54% of the votes.

The Grândola (Setúbal district) Municipal Council will transition under socialist Luís Vital’s presidency, succeeding communist António Figueira Mendes, following three consecutive mandates.

CDU (PCP/PEV) captured today’s municipal elections in Mora, Évora district, claiming the council from PS, following results from the four parishes, per Ministry of Internal Administration’s data.

CDU, achieving 45.66% and securing three mandates, overtook PS with 36.39%, collecting two mandates.

In third place, Movimento Autonomous MAIS – Mora attained 12.36%, garnering no council seats.

Luis Simão Duarte de Matos will serve as the new President of the Municipal Council of Mora, obtaining a majority of mandates.

The PCP secretary-general, Paulo Raimundo, reacted to the municipal election results: “The electoral expression obtained cannot be disconnected from CDU’s result built under particularly rigorous conditions, marked by a campaign encountering numerous adversities,” he stated.

Raimundo considered the result was “generally negative,” yet held elements of resilience, “with acquiring majorities in 11 municipalities, including new ones like Sines, Montemor-o-Novo, Mora, and Aljustrel.”

“Achieving new wins, thereby challenging pronouncements on CDU’s unavoidable downfall, and verifying tangible opportunities to reclaim municipalities despite experiencing setbacks presently,” he acknowledged, noting Lisbon’s upward trend, “with João Ferreira’s election, reflecting CDU’s worth and strength.”

The PSD/CDS-PP coalition won today’s municipal elections in Baião, securing a majority, securing the Porto district’s council from the PS, based on results from all fourteen parishes, as reported by the Ministry of Internal Administration.

With 51.68% of votes, the PSD/CDS-PP coalition won four of seven mandates, leaving PS in second place with three mandates and 40.6% of the votes. Chega stood in third with 4.30% of votes.

Ana Raquel Coelho Azevedo will serve as Baião’s Municipal Council President, securing an absolute majority.

PS will lead Serpa’s Municipal Council, claiming this communist platform in today’s municipal elections, based on results from all six parishes, conveyed by the Ministry of Internal Administration.

Following PS with 41.25%, PCP-PEV (CDU) ranked second with 33.62%, and PSD/CDS-PP was third, obtaining 8.41% votes.

Socialist Francisco Picareta was elected President of Serpa’s (Beja district) Municipal Council with an absolute majority.

R-MI triumphed in today’s local elections in Aljezur, Faro district, with results collated from four parishes, as reported by the Ministry of Internal Administration.

Ahead of R-MI, securing 56.86%, PS placed second with 33.36%, and CH was third, gaining 3.98% votes.

Manuel José de Jesus Marreiros was elected President of the Aljezur Municipal Council with a majority, defeating José Gonçalves of PS.

PS won today, securing Bragança’s Municipal Council, ending PSD’s 28-year rule.

In a statement conveyed to Lusa, PSD’s candidate and current mayor, Paulo Xavier, said he accepts the Bragança populace’s choice “with calm and respect.”

Trailing PSD/CDS-PP with a 63.03% victory index, the second-most-voted party was PS, achieving 14.56%, whilst CLIP was third, gathering 10.24% votes.

Fermelinda Carvalho was elected President of Portalegre’s Municipal Council with an absolute majority.

The PSD-IL coalition won today’s local elections in Santa Comba Dão, Viseu district, securing the municipal presidency from PS, which obtained 36.40% of votes, according to the Ministry of Internal Administration’s data.

With all six parishes’ results accounted for, the winning coalition, PSD-IL, and PS each secured three mandates, while the independent SCD+ – Santa Comba Mais secured the seventh mandate, collecting 14.97% votes.

Inês Varela Matos succeeded Leonel Gouveia of PS, presiding over Santa Comba Dão.

PSD earned an absolute majority victory in Vendas Novas, Évora district, in today’s municipal elections, previously under PS, following provisional numbers from the Ministry of Internal Administration.

PSD achieved 51.47% of votes, earning four mandates, while PS garnered 25.42%, securing one mandate.

CDU (PCP-PEV), the third-most-voted, with 11.96% of votes, doesn’t have any mandate. Similarly, Chega, achieving 9.17%, also missed mandates.

Ricardo Videira was elected President of the Vendas Novas Municipal Council.

The PSD/CDS-PP coalition emerged victorious in today’s municipal elections for Ribeira Brava, Madeira, taking over the municipal presidency from the independent RB1 movement, validated by the Ministry of Internal Administration’s preliminary figures.

According to the Ministry’s data, PSD/CDS-PP’s list secured 51.60% of votes, earning five mandates, while Ribeira Brava em Primeiro (RB1) captured 29.55%, securing two mandates.

The municipality of Ribeira Brava was previously governed by RB1, which had PSD support in the 2021 local elections.

Condeixa Novos Caminhos (CNC) prevailed in today’s local elections in Condeixa-a-Nova, with results already tallied for seven parishes, according to the Ministry’s data.

After CNC, achieving 43.50%, PS ranked second with 23.41%, and PPD/PSD garnered 21.82% of votes.

Liliana Marques Pimentel was elected President of Condeixa-a-Nova’s Municipal Council, succeeding Nuno Moita da Costa (PS), not seeking re-election.

PS triumphed in today’s Viana do Alentejo local elections, Évora district, overturning CDU (PCP-PEV)’s tenure, with reported results from three parishes by the Ministry of Internal Administration.

Capturing 40.67% of votes and securing two mandates, PS ousted CDU to second place, having also earned two mandates, albeit with only 32.5% of votes. Chega elected its first council member, achieving 18.8% of the votes, while PSD/CDS-PP didn’t obtain a mandate, losing its 2021 mandate.

Luís Miguel Horta Metrogos will serve as the new President of the Viana do Alentejo Municipal Council.

Chega’s top candidate for Porto Municipal Council, Miguel Corte-Real, announced today his council election, besides ensuring the party’s election “of representatives in every parish” of the city.

“Though the final results are pending, and conclusive deductions remain impossible, we affirm having a party team committed to working for Porto over the next four years,” he declared, though official data from the Ministry of Internal Administration remains unknown.

Corte-Real claimed representation “in both the municipal council” and extended Chega’s presence “in the municipal assembly” alongside all seven parishes undergoing suffrage in Porto. “We have grown immensely. But this will make Porto thrive. Porto is poised to grow with a formidable team, empowered by Chega in Porto.”

José João Patrício seized Tabuaço’s municipal presidency for PS in the local elections, celebrating an accomplishment he compared to a “near April 25th” locally.

“It’s an immense joy. It’s nearly a ‘April 25th’ in Tabuaço, after many years under entrenched power prioritizing self-interest over community well-being,” expressed the president-elect, to Lusa.

José João Patrício added that “it’s a celebratory eruption unseen for a long time in Tabuaço,” which “as great a joy as it is, bears considerable responsibility.”

“All these people desire a different term, one that’s more inclusive, offering more opportunities for everyone, a major challenge I now undertake, hopeful for future success,” expressed further.

PS/Madeira leader Paulo Cafôfo announced today his resignation following the local election results, where PS lost one of its three municipal presidencies.

The ‘Isaltino Inovar Oeiras 25’ campaign resulted in nearly 62% of votes for Isaltino Morais, with 40% ballot tallying, moving into his final term as Oeiras’ council president. The PS-PAN coalition placed second (11.2%).
