Year-on-year inflation in the euro zone rises to 2.2% in September

Inflation, measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), increased from the rate of 1.7% recorded in September 2024, compared to 2.0% in August, a figure that had remained constant for three consecutive months.

According to the European statistical service, the lowest annual rates were observed in Cyprus (0.0%), France (1.1%), Italy, and Greece (both at 1.8%), while the highest rates were recorded in Romania (8.6%), Estonia (5.3%), Croatia, and Slovakia (both at 4.6%).

Compared to August 2025, inflation decreased in eight member states, remained stable in four, and increased in fifteen.

Portugal recorded the fifth lowest HICP in August at 1.9%.

In September 2025, the largest contributions to the annual inflation rate of the eurozone came from services (1.49 percentage points), followed by food, alcohol, and tobacco (0.58 percentage points), non-energy industrial goods (0.20 percentage points), and energy (-0.03 percentage points).
