During the formal session of the 23rd National Congress of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, which is taking place in Aveiro, Francisco Corte Real, the president of the INMLCF, took the opportunity of the Justice Minister’s presence to request an external recruitment process to regularize the situation of autopsy service technicians. He noted that this issue has persisted for many years.
The head emphasized the response of the autopsy service technicians to the tragedy at the Elevador da Glória in Lisbon, who “volunteered and worked throughout the night, although they have not yet been granted what they have long demanded—entry into the Institute’s staff plan.”
“Faced with our request for availability, they did not refuse, did not complain, and showed their full commitment to ensure that the Institute, the Ministry of Justice, and the Portuguese State met their obligations to Portuguese citizens and the various countries involved,” he highlighted.
Without addressing the president of the INMLCF, Justice Minister Rita Alarcão Júdice expressed her “enormous gratitude” to the president of the Institute and all those who were present during the tragedy at the Elevador da Glória.
“They were truly heroes at that moment, and I also express my gratitude for the way they acted in that moment of great anguish, suffering, and despair for all those who lost their loved ones,” she stated.
The minister also mentioned that the Ministry of Justice is committed to investing in the National Institute of Legal Medicine, reaffirming its commitment to continuous training, rejuvenation of staff, and talent retention.
The 23rd National Congress of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, held at the Aveiro Congress Center until Saturday, is the largest gathering of professionals in the field of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in the country.
