An officer from the Coimbra District Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) saved the life of an elderly man who went into cardiac arrest in downtown Coimbra.
In a statement released on social media, authorities explained that the incident occurred last week when an “85-year-old man went into cardiac arrest near the Banco de Portugal in downtown Coimbra and was promptly assisted by a member of the Rapid Intervention Teams of the Coimbra Police Division.”
Principal Officer Bruno Gama, who was at the scene, noticed that the elderly man was going into cardiac arrest and “quickly began basic life support maneuvers, managing to reverse the situation.”
After stabilizing the elderly man, “medical services were called, and he was transported to the hospital.”
The elderly man “underwent surgery, and thanks to the quick and effective intervention of the officer who provided basic life support, the victim is stable,” highlighted the PSP.
