A 28-year-old man, arrested by the National Republican Guard (GNR) on suspicion of aggravated domestic violence in Évora, has been subjected to several restraining measures after appearing in court, including a ban on contacting his 11-month-old daughter.
A statement released on Friday by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Évora District revealed that the Public Ministry presented, during the initial judicial interrogation, a man “indicted for the crime of aggravated domestic violence against his 28-year-old partner.”
According to the prosecutor, the individual is “strongly suspected” of having mistreated “the victim physically and psychologically” throughout the relationship, which lasted from June 2024 to October 2025.
The suspect’s behaviors “intensified in recent days,” involving “physical and psychological attacks in the presence of their 11-month-old daughter.”
The assaults took place in Nossa Senhora da Machede, Évora, leading to the suspect’s arrest in flagrante delicto.
Considering the “risks of continued criminal activity and disruption of the investigation,” the Public Ministry requested the application of preventive detention as a coercive measure.
The man was eventually released but under several restraining measures, including:
- Prohibition of contact, by any means, directly or through a third party, with the victim, monitored remotely, with the court waiving consent for her protection and setting a distance radius of 500 meters;
- Prohibition from staying at the victim’s current or future residence and/or workplace, with the obligation to leave the residence;
- Prohibition of acquiring and using any knives or firearms in possession, to be surrendered within 24 hours, which could facilitate continued criminal activity;
- Suspension of parental responsibilities concerning the common daughter and all related contact until regulated by the Family and Minors Court;
- Obligation of daily presentation to the nearest criminal police body in the area of residence in Lisbon.
According to the statement, the investigations continue under the direction of the Évora Department of Investigation and Penal Action (second specialized section) with the assistance of the GNR’s Specific Victims Support Investigation Unit (NIAVE).
