
The family allowance amounts are set to increase next year, following the inflation rate, as outlined in the State Budget proposal for 2026 (OE2026), which includes an expanded budget for this support.
“Regarding the family allowance, the increase of 27.6 million euros in 2026, compared to 2025, results from the inflation-adjusted amounts, uniform across all income brackets of the household and the age of the dependent/holder,” the OE2026 proposal report released by the government states.
Prime Minister Luís Montenegro’s government has presented the State Budget proposal for 2026 (OE2026), promising “more income” for pensioners, according to the dedicated budget document website.
“The government continues its policy of supporting the elderly and the most vulnerable, maintaining its focus on increasing their income,” the platform notes.
Mercadona inaugurated its Frielas supermarket in Loures on Thursday, October 16. The new Spanish brand store is located at Rua do Bom Jardim, nº 2, according to a released statement.
The company explained at the time that this new opening “represents a significant step in strengthening Mercadona’s presence in the municipality, bringing it even closer to the ‘bosses’ (customers).”

The Social Security Institute (ISS) announced on Wednesday that the application for the Elderly Solidarity Supplement (CSI) can be made online.
“Did you know you don’t have to visit service counters to apply for the Elderly Solidarity Supplement? You can do it easily, conveniently, and securely online on the Social Security Portal,” a statement on the public body’s website reads.
The Secretary of State for Social Security assured today that when the government learned of cuts in social support, it directed the “suspension of resource condition reassessments” to “prevent further harm to citizens.”
In a joint hearing at the Budget, Finance and Public Administration Commission and the Labor, Social Security, and Inclusion Commission requested by the PS, Secretary of State for Social Security Susana Filipa Lima admitted that in August, “complaints” arose from “several citizens and associations, claiming that the Informal Caregiver Support Subsidy allocation was penalizing the household in some social benefits, particularly the family allowance.”
