A 45-year-old man was detained for domestic violence by the GNR, as announced in a statement. The arrest took place on Wednesday by the Territorial Post of Alvalade, in the municipality of Santiago do Cacém, Setúbal district.
Following a domestic violence report, officers of the Guarda rushed to the scene and verified that the perpetrator subjected the victim to physical, psychological, and verbal abuse.
In an interview, Major Nuno Afonso, commander of the Santiago do Cacém Territorial Detachment of the GNR, stated that the incidents occurred in Ermidas-Sado and noted that the man had threatened his mother with a kitchen knife.
The operation resulted in the suspect’s arrest and the seizure of the weapon, as detailed in the statement.
According to Major Nuno Afonso, the suspect has appeared before the Setúbal Court and is now in pre-trial detention, held at the Montijo Prison.
The police operation was supported by the Investigation and Support Center for Specific Victims (NIAVE) of the Santiago do Cacém Territorial Detachment.
