Films by Eça Guimarães and Filipe Carmo win Vistacurta festival

The award for the best short film in the national competition was given to ‘Porque hoje é sábado’, directed by Alice Eça Guimarães, which also won the audience award at the Vila do Conde Short Film Festival in August.

In the local competition, which featured films created by Viseu residents or filmed in the city, the winner was ‘Only wanting to melt beautifully away’, directed by Filipe Daniel Carmo, announced the Cine Clube de Viseu, the organizer of the Vistacurta Festival.

The directors of each competition received a prize of 1,500 euros each, totaling 3,000 euros awarded across the two categories for best short films.

During the closing of the Vistacurta Festival, which began on Tuesday, the Primeira Vista award was given to João Pais da Silva for his short film ‘Estéril’.

Established in 2021, the Primeira Vista prize is non-monetary and consists of a sculpture by Liliana Velho. The jury was composed of five students from Viseu, all under 17 years of age.

Over five days, the Vistacurta Festival, in addition to the short film competitions, featured feature films, cine concerts, a program for schools, and discussions with directors.

The Cine Clube de Viseu board highlighted that “the Vistacurta’s plans resulted in a series of five days of sessions, with short film competitions, concerts, and parallel activities, with very special new features.”

“Such as the exhibition dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Cine Clube de Viseu and the renewal of connections with regular partners, namely the Municipality of Viseu, Teatro Viriato, Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude (IPDJ), and Carmo81,” they emphasized.

Through the Vistacurta Festival, the Cine Clube de Viseu opened activities for everyone, including youth, adults, local and national filmmakers, providing spaces for meeting, socializing, and dialogue,” they stated to the Lusa agency.

The exhibition “70 Years of Cine Clube de Viseu – Documentary Exhibition” will be on display until January 2026 and can be visited at Casa da Ribeira, Viseu.
