An enforcement action was conducted on Thursday by the Coastal and Border Control Unit (UCCF), through the Nazaré Coastal Control Post, aimed at regulating the sale, transportation, and storage of fresh fish, the GNR stated in a press release.
During the operation, officials discovered “an individual transporting hake that did not meet legal sale size requirements, resulting in its seizure.”
The GNR reported that 525 kilograms of undersized hake were confiscated and a 48-year-old man was identified, with an infraction notice issued that could lead to a fine of up to 37,500 euros.
“The seized fish, after undergoing hygienic and sanitary control, was donated to various social solidarity institutions,” they noted.
The GNR emphasized that adhering to minimum capture size regulations is crucial for the sustainable management of fish resources, contributing to the preservation of marine ecosystems and the future profitability of the fishing industry.
