The National Maritime Authority reported that the alert was issued at 12:08 p.m. local time (1:08 p.m. in Lisbon) via the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center of Ponta Delgada (MRCC Delgada).
In response, members from the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Praia da Vitória, a high-angle rescue team from the Voluntary Firefighters of Praia da Vitória, the Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service of the Azores (SRPCBA), and an Immediate Life Support vehicle (SIV) were activated.
“Upon arrival at the scene, it was determined that the victim had sustained several injuries,” the National Maritime Authority stated in a release.
The recreational fisherman received assistance and stabilization from the Firefighters and SIV vehicle personnel and was subsequently rescued by the high-angle team, the statement added.
He was later transported by the Voluntary Firefighters to a hospital facility, and the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Praia da Vitória took charge of the incident.
