A young couple aged 25 and 29 was arrested in the central region of the country on Tuesday, October 14, on suspicion of “producing, advertising, and selling drugs” online to a “large group of clients,” the Judicial Police (PJ) revealed today in a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto.
Investigators have been examining the case since April 2024, following the detection of an Instagram page and several restricted groups on Telegram that advertised the sale of narcotics, specifically cannabis, in various forms.
As the investigation progressed, the PJ managed to identify and locate the administrators of these accounts, discovering they shipped the illicit products via “postal orders” both domestically and internationally, following the orders they received.
In the suspects’ residence, inspectors found two greenhouses used for cultivating cannabis, along with drugs already prepared for sale.
The couple had cannabis drugs, leaves and tops, resin and oil, as well as a “variety of business-related paraphernalia, a firearm, and a knife” seized.
During searches conducted in Cantanhede and Vagos, two cars and several computer devices were also confiscated from the couple.
The detained individuals, who have no criminal records, are now to be brought before a court to determine appropriate coercive measures.
