Maria do Rosário Pedreira will visit the Escola Básica e Secundária do Pinheiro, Escola Secundária Joaquim de Araújo, and Escola Secundária de Penafiel on Thursday and Friday to meet with students and teachers.
On Friday, a bust and commemorative phrase honoring the Escritaria 2025 dedicatee will be unveiled at Jardim do Sameiro at 10:30 a.m., along with a tree planting in her honor at the Escritaria Grove.
The exhibition ‘Portas abertas no coração: o fado de Maria do Rosário Pedreira,’ featuring Bruno Santos, Fedra Santos, Raúl Constante Pereira, and Joana Estrela, will open at Penafiel Municipal Library on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
At 3:00 p.m. on the same day, a debate titled ‘Dei-te o meu corpo como quem estende um mapa antes da viagem’ will be held at Ponto C, with participants José Luís Peixoto, Luísa Sobral, and Nuno Camarneiro, moderated by João Céu e Silva.
An hour later, Maria do Rosário Pedreira will present ‘Caçador de algas,’ her exclusive short story collection for Escritaria 2025, followed by a signing session.
Rita Pedreira will invite her aunt, Maria do Rosário Pereira, to the poetry jam ‘Desespero avulso’ later, where “a dialogue of texts and affections, a conversation between two generations and a sea of poetry uniting them” will take place, according to the organizers.
At 9:30 p.m., journalist Teresa Dias Mendes will conduct a live interview with Maria do Rosário Pedreira, covering her life and work as an author, editor, and successful lyricist.
Born in Lisbon in 1959, Maria do Rosário Pedreira has shown a deep connection to the literary world since an early age, establishing a multifaceted career that places her among the most influential figures in contemporary Portuguese literary culture.
As a poet, she is known for her “delicate, intimate, and reflective” works, exploring themes like love, loss, time, and absence, with her poetry often being linked to a lyrical heritage that resonates with figures like Sophia de Mello Breyner or Eugénio de Andrade, yet maintaining her unique tone of restraint and sensitivity.
In publishing, Maria do Rosário Pedreira has edited works by authors such as José Luís Peixoto, Valter Hugo Mãe, João Tordo, Luísa Sobral, Nuno Camarneiro, Paulo Moreiras, and Ana Cristina Silva.
Her sensitivity as a reader and editor has been praised by writers, critics, and industry professionals, earning her a place as a key mediator between authors and readers in Portugal.
