A 34-year-old man was detained by the Public Security Police (PSP) last Wednesday, October 15, in the parish of São Vicente, Lisbon, on suspicion of committing theft in a commercial establishment.
The PSP states that officers arrived at the commercial establishment around 4:00 AM, where a theft was underway.
At the scene, they received information from an eyewitness who reported seeing the suspect break the shop window and enter, only to leave shortly afterward.
Using the description provided by the witness regarding the suspect’s appearance and clothing, the police searched the surrounding streets, located the suspect, and intercepted him.
Upon confronting him, PSP officers noted that the suspect had cuts on his hands and on the jacket he was wearing, consistent with the method used to commit the crime by entering through the broken shop window.
A search revealed the suspect was in possession of 26.02 euros in coins. This amount was seized by the PSP and later returned to the rightful owner.
During the police investigation, the drawer from the cash register with traces of blood was also recovered and seized.
Later, the owner of the commercial establishment was contacted to go to the police department, where, after formally filing a complaint, the suspect was officially arrested.
The detainee was declared a defendant, issued a Term of Identity and Residence, and notified to appear before the Judicial Authority at the Justice Campus for the application of appropriate coercive measures.
