Lines at Lisbon airport CTP is “very concerned”

The CTP has announced in a statement that it is “in constant contact with the Government, with a meeting already scheduled with the Minister of Internal Administration to demand explanations about the ongoing situation at Lisbon airport, particularly due to failures in the new European automated border control system.”

The confederation representing companies in the tourism sector reiterated that these “persistent” problems at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon, which have recurred since May, “undermine the image of national tourism in particular and the country in general.”

The CTP emphasized that its concern has “intensified in recent days, considering the problems experienced at Lisbon and Faro airports, with long queues and waiting times.”

The first phase of the new European automated external border control system (Entry/Exit System (EES)) came into effect on October 12, still without biometric data collection from all travelers outside the Schengen Area, which is expected to begin at the end of November.

According to the CTP, two days later, on a Tuesday, a day with a higher flow of non-EU passengers, “equipment failures and the lack of resources of the border police once again caused chaos at Lisbon airport.”
