Fat Freddy’s Drop is set to return to Portugal with a tour dedicated to their debut album ‘Based On A True Story’. The concert is scheduled for September 23, 2026, at Campo Pequeno in Lisbon.
The world tour, announced on Sunday, October 19, includes 51 dates and will celebrate the 21st anniversary of ‘Based On A True Story’, an album released in 2005 that holds a significant place in contemporary New Zealand music.
The return of the New Zealand band, also touring Australia, New Zealand, and Europe, comes after “the unexpected loss of founding member Chris ‘MU’ Faiumu, paying tribute to him.
“It’s important for us to honor the intentions we had with MU, and playing this album live is part of that,” said vocalist Dallas Taimara.
Saxophonist Scott Towers noted, “This was the first studio album” and “its success was the springboard for an incredible journey.”
“We want to pay tribute to the music, to MU, and to the band he helped create. And, of course, to play for the fans worldwide who have always supported us,” he said.
Tickets for the show will be available at usual outlets and online from October 24 (Friday) and range from 26 euros to 38 euros.
The New Zealand band has previously performed in Portugal, including in July 2024 at Cooljazz and in July 2022 also at Campo Pequeno.
