He threatened to water and burn the woman alive. He was detained and is in preventive custody.

A 50-year-old man was arrested last Wednesday, October 15, in Cascais by the Public Security Police (PSP) under arrest warrants issued by the Judiciary Authority for domestic violence.

The detainee is accused of committing domestic violence against his wife, whom he married in 2003, as well as their two children, aged 17 and 21.

In a statement, the PSP noted that “throughout the relationship,” the man “constantly exhibited a violent personality and emotional instability, insulting his wife and destroying objects during arguments, including computers and furniture belonging to his wife and children.”

“In one incident, the detainee approached the victim and punched her multiple times in the chest and kicked her legs. He then took her mobile phone and threw it to the ground and onto the road, destroying it completely,” the statement continued.

The PSP further reported that “the suspect continually sought to control the victim, preventing her from socializing with friends, and sought to monitor her during her work hours.”

The detainee “threatened the victim with death” on several occasions, stating “that one day he would douse her with gasoline and set her on fire.”

“In another episode, after the victim returned from work at 11 p.m., she was confronted by the suspect, who punched her in the head, causing her to fall unconscious, only to awaken with one of her children pleading with the father to call emergency services,” it stated.

The arrest warrants were executed on October 15, and the following day, after appearing before the judicial authority, the most severe measure of coercion, preventive detention, was applied.
