
The Bank of Portugal issued a warning on Monday concerning Ajax Sousa Pontes do Espírito Santo and the company Ajax Sousa Pontes do Espírito Santo, Unipessoal Lda., stating that they are not authorized to engage in financial activities reserved for institutions under its supervision within the country.
The regulator clarified that these entities, whether acting on their own behalf or for others, are not permitted to provide payment services, including the transfer of funds.
It was emphasized that providing payment services, as outlined in Article 4 of the Legal Regime of Payment Services and Electronic Money, approved by Decree-Law No. 91/2018 of November 12, is reserved for duly licensed entities, in accordance with Article 11, paragraph 1 of the same decree.
The Bank of Portugal also reminded that the list of entities authorized to provide payment services can be accessed on its website.
