Portuguese MEPs join European Parliament’s Agriculture mission to Brazil

The program of the visit, as outlined in a statement from the European Parliament (EP), includes meetings of the 12 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) with Brazilian government officials, notably the Minister of Family Farming and Agrarian Development, Paulo Teixeira.

The MEPs will visit a research center dedicated to sustainable development, featuring technology for plant and animal production systems.

The mission’s program, which concludes on the 30th, also includes meetings with Brazilian producers of soy, corn, cattle, and poultry, visits to organic farms, and discussions with representatives of the agricultural sector at the Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture.

Brazil is one of the Mercosur countries, alongside Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, with which the EU finalized a trade agreement in December after 25 years of negotiations. The deal is now in the process of ratification.
