The Directorate-General for Health (DGS) shared practical tips on Thursday, October 23, for maintaining oral health and preventing future problems in children.
The DGS used social media to emphasize the impact of oral hygiene, stating, “Did you know your mouth says a lot about your health?”
They pointed out that “the mouth is a mirror of your health,” noting that “inflamed gums and bad breath can indicate issues beyond the teeth.”
To support oral health, the DGS highlighted three key habits: “use dental floss first,” “brush your teeth and tongue at least twice a day,” and “spit out toothpaste and avoid rinsing with water after brushing.”
For optimal oral hygiene, a “soft brush” and toothpaste with fluoride content between 1000 to 1500 ppm should be used. It is crucial for younger individuals to remember to “replace toothbrushes every three months” and that a toothbrush and toothpaste are essential in a ‘first aid kit’ for schoolbags.
If brushing is not possible, “chew sugar-free gum immediately after eating.”

Finally, the DGS recommended choosing snacks that do not stick to the teeth, as stickier foods increase the risk of cavities.
