Joaquim Miranda Sarmento committed to significant fiscal changes during the debate on the proposed State Budget for 2026 (OE2026) at the Committee on Budget, Finance, and Public Administration.
The OE2026, he stated, marks the fourth relief of the IRS “within a year and a half.” This follows an initial reduction at the beginning of 2024 by the previous PS government under António Costa, a mid-year decrease by the first PSD-CDS-PP government led by Luís Montenegro, an update of the brackets in the OE for 2025, and the adjustment of rates in July this year.
