In statements to Lusa, Rui Lampreia, the commander of the Northern Maritime Zone of the Portuguese Navy, explained that around 4:30 PM, an alert was received indicating that a fishing vessel had capsized off the coast of Espinho.
The Maritime Police successfully rescued the sole occupant of the vessel, a man approximately 70 years of age.
The individual received assistance from the Espinho Volunteer Firefighters in an ambulance.
The recreational boat was reportedly “taken by surprise by a rogue wave” but was found washed ashore north of Hotel Sol Verde, the same source added.
