The company confirmed that the level crossing “was operational, with signage and barriers lowered,” but the victim is believed to have “bypassed the barriers and crossed, resulting in being struck by the train.”
According to IP, train traffic on the Northern Line is currently restricted in both directions, with trains running on a single track.
The alert for the incident was issued at 09:14. The Lezíria do Tejo Civil Protection sub-regional command confirmed one fatality and dispatched eight personnel and three vehicles to the scene.
