A woman who left three minors alone in tourist accommodation in Matosinhos on Wednesday night, reportedly to attend a company gathering, has been located by the Public Security Police (PSP), an official source confirmed.
The woman, aged 33, informed police officers that she “drank too much” and consequently slept in her car, failing to return to the accommodation where she left her 15-year-old niece, who is under her care, as well as her two children, aged 5 and 3.
The PSP further revealed that the family, originally from Mozambique, resides in Lisbon and traveled to Porto for the woman to attend the company dinner.
The Mozambican national had booked accommodation on Rua do Godinho in Matosinhos, leaving the children there when she left for the gathering around 7-8 PM.
The following morning, the niece, alarmed by her aunt’s absence, called emergency services. The PSP was activated, locating both the minors and the aunt, whose phone was off.
The incident was reported to the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People (CPCJ), which monitored the situation, and the children were returned to the woman’s care.
