The Public Security Police (PSP) apprehended a 20-year-old man in Leiria on November 27, who had been convicted of attempted murder and was on the run for about two months after cutting off his electronic monitoring bracelet.
The criminal, as stated by the PSP, had been sentenced to home detention with electronic surveillance for the crime of attempted murder. However, in October, he severed the bracelet and fled.
After extensive efforts to locate him, the PSP received information indicating that the young man was hiding in Leiria at his father’s residence, which was confirmed.
Subsequently, the convict was detained and transferred to the Leiria Prison to await further proceedings in preventive custody due to his removal of the electronic monitoring bracelet.
The PSP also clarified in the note sent today to Notícias ao Minuto that the man was convicted of the crime of qualified attempted murder after engaging in a physical altercation with another man in Leiria during the summer of 2024.
The perpetrator allegedly stabbed his rival 15 times in the abdominal, thoracic, and dorsal areas.
