The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued warnings starting at 6:00 PM today, extending until 3:00 PM on Tuesday, due to forecasts of west quadrant waves ranging from 5 to 5.5 meters, potentially reaching up to 10 meters in maximum height.
IPMA has also issued a yellow warning, effective between 6:00 PM today and 6:00 AM on Wednesday, for the districts of Faro and Setúbal, and between 3:00 PM today and 6:00 AM on Wednesday, for the district of Lisbon, due to strong maritime agitation, with waves expected from the west quadrant measuring 4 to 5 meters.
The north coast of Madeira and Porto Santo is also under a yellow warning, the lowest of the three alert levels, from 3:00 PM today until midnight on Wednesday, also due to maritime agitation.
On Tuesday, the districts of Viseu, Évora, Faro, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre, the south coast of Madeira, Porto Santo, and the mountainous regions of the archipelago are under a yellow warning due to periods of sometimes heavy rain.
The orange warning is issued by IPMA when there is a “moderate to high risk meteorological situation,” while the yellow warning indicates a risk for specific activities dependent on the weather situation.
