Health Minister Ana Paula Martins announced on Monday during a press conference that “the next eight weeks will be particularly demanding” for the National Health Service (SNS) and its users, as an “increase in demand for emergency services” is anticipated due to rising flu cases.
“In this context, the Ministry of Health is following its seasonal response plan for winter, which outlines measures to enhance the SNS’s response capacity during the months of greatest pressure,” Ana Paula Martins stated.
The plan in question, she explained, encompasses local contingency plans from the Local Health Units (ULS) and the Portuguese Institutes of Oncology (IPO), developed by them, taking into account guidelines from the Directorate-General of Health (DGS) and the Executive Directorate of the National Health Service (DE-SNS).
